Sailing lesson turns deadly for boy in Long Island

On Behalf of | Jul 27, 2017 | Boating Accidents

New York City and many of its suburbs are surrounded by water and therefore, boating is a popular recreational activity. However, activities involving boats can also be dangerous and a day of fun and sun can quickly take a dangerous turn, especially for those who are inexperienced. Suffering an injury on the water can be extremely serious for victims and their families.

A 12-year-old boy has died after succumbing to injuries he sustained in a recent boating accident in Long Island. After falling out of a boat and being struck by its propeller, the boy was retrieved from the water. He received CPR and was then transported to the hospital once authorities arrived. However, he did not survive.

The boy was participating in a sailing lesson with two other youths at the time of the accident. They were learning what to do in the case of a capsized boat. The students had been riding with their instructor in a Zodiac boat when the boy fell out of the inflatable vessel and into the path of the propeller. The other two students remained in the boat and no other injuries were reported

While money can never replace the grief caused by losing a loved one, compensation can help with things like medical bills and funeral expenses. People whose lives have been affected by an injury that took place on a boat may wish to contact an experienced attorney.
